XenServer's AI story is GPU acceleration for virtual desktops, where it has been strong for a decade; NVIDIA validates it for Blackwell VDI cards only. There is no AI in operations and no official agent interface.

    Reading

XenServer is again a Citrix add-on: since mid-2024 it is only available inside Citrix subscriptions, and licence activation through Citrix Cloud became mandatory in 2026. Its strength is GPU-accelerated VDI, where it led early (vGPU live migration in 2017); for general server virtualization it lags on SDN, Kubernetes and storage. XenServer 9 is a real modernisation, but it makes most sense for buyers who already run Citrix.

Open questions and items to re-score

    • XenServer 9 docs still call NVIDIA vGPU 'preview, not fully supported' while an August update says vGPU live migration is supported.
    • Pool size limit reduced from 64 to 32 hosts in XenServer 9.
    • Price inside Citrix bundles is not public.
    • Content of the Aug 2026 roadmap webinar not read.
