Infrastructure Monitoring Ledger Methodology: How Every Score Is Built

How the Infrastructure Monitoring Ledger scores 20 platforms: fixed anchors, public evidence only, a product security record, one scale for all licences.

Broadcom DX NetOps and DX UIM: Monitoring Ledger 2026

Broadcom DX NetOps and DX UIM are the deepest high-end suite here, with topology root cause at huge scale, but deals are subscription-only, high minimums.

    Centreon: Monitoring Ledger 2026

Centreon is a European open-core platform shipping twice a year on schedule, with low lock-in and strong VMware-exit coverage but no flow or log analysis.

    Checkmk: Monitoring Ledger 2026

Checkmk has the cleanest delivery record here and Proxmox monitoring since 2021, but flow analysis still leans on ntopng and config backup is missing.

    Elastic Observability: Monitoring Ledger 2026

Elastic brings search, logs and machine learning to monitoring with a strong delivery record, but network-device and hypervisor depth remain thin.

Grafana Labs self-hosted stack: Monitoring Ledger 2026

Grafana Labs offers a full self-hosted observability stack with the best release record here, but lacks network management and topology root cause.

IBM SevOne / Netcool: Infrastructure Monitoring Ledger 2026

IBM folds Netcool and AIOps into Concert Operate on OpenShift, strong on network scale and on-time delivery, but heavy, quote-only and without Proxmox.

    Icinga: Infrastructure Monitoring Ledger 2026

Icinga builds a modular, fully GPL stack with a steady, honest record, but graphs, logs, flows and network config live in other tools buyers must run.

    LibreNMS: Monitoring Ledger 2026

LibreNMS is a volunteer-run GPLv3 network monitor with monthly releases and almost no lock-in, but no company, little funding and thin server depth.

ManageEngine OpManager Nexus: Monitoring Ledger 2026

ManageEngine is folding OpManager and its sister modules into one Nexus suite with local and cloud LLM features on top.

Microsoft System Center Operations Manager: Monitoring Ledger 2026

Microsoft keeps SCOM as a long-supported on-premises engine for Windows estates while steering new monitoring to Azure Monitor and Arc.

    Nagios XI: Monitoring Ledger 2026

Nagios XI is modernising around Nagios Core with Proxmox and XCP-ng wizards and easy exit, but most releases are incremental and there is no ML.

Netdata Agent with self-hosted Parents: Monitoring Ledger 2026

Netdata gives per-second, zero-config monitoring with ML on every metric and strong Proxmox coverage, but network, logs and multi-tenancy are thin.

OpenNMS Horizon and Meridian: Monitoring Ledger 2026

OpenNMS offers deep free network, event and scale capability and delivered every 2023-2026 promise, but release pace slowed and it needs specialist skills.

    Opsview Monitor: Monitoring Ledger 2026

Opsview, rebuilt by ITRS on microservices, adds Proxmox, AHV and AI hooks with mostly on-time releases, and is strong on business views and multi-tenancy.

Progress WhatsUp Gold: Monitoring Ledger 2026

WhatsUp Gold is a mature Windows-based network monitor with perpetual licences, but releases are incremental and 2024 brought two exploited flaws.

    Prometheus: Monitoring Ledger 2026

Prometheus is the metrics engine much of the market builds on, delivering on target with no owner who could change the licence, but it is not a full suite.

    PRTG: Infrastructure Monitoring Ledger 2026

Paessler is modernising PRTG around v2 sensors, cross-platform probes and acquired topology and configuration tools, while extending into OT.

ScienceLogic Skylar One: Monitoring Ledger 2026

ScienceLogic Skylar One is one of the broadest AIOps platforms here and ships on schedule, but it had an exploited zero-day in 2024 and forces OS upgrades.

SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted: Monitoring Ledger 2026

SolarWinds is turning its Orion estate into a subscription self-hosted observability suite with an AI agent and incident response on top.

    Zabbix: Monitoring Ledger 2026

Zabbix has the most transparent record here, with a public roadmap, regular LTS releases and strong scale; buyers add flow, config backup and topology.

    How to read these scores

    • Commercial products, open-core and open-source projects are scored on the same ten domains. * marks sustainability risk (LibreNMS, no company behind it) in place of commercial risk; Prometheus is an engine with no commercial-risk score, so its buyer safety uses lock-in only.
    • History is scored at the end of 2016, 2019 and 2022 and today against fixed anchors; products launched later start in their launch year.
    • The Ledger Index is shown only for 2023 onward, because credibility, risk and integrator fit are scored for that window only.
    • Entries marked not ranked lack enough public evidence; their scores are shown for reference only.
