Part of the On-Prem Kubernetes Ledger (edition 2026-10-13). How the scores work: methodology.

    1. Snapshot

    • Tier: Challenger
    • Owner: Nutanix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTNX); DKP and team bought from D2iQ in late 2023, announced 2024-01-25
    • Licence model: Commercial subscription in Starter, Pro and Ultimate tiers, sold by core unit on worker-node vCPUs; list prices not public
    • Products scored: NKP 2.18 (Kommander management, Cluster API lifecycle, platform applications, Insights, AI Navigator); earlier D2iQ Konvoy and DKP
    • Latest release: NKP 2.18.0 (2026-07-03, Kubernetes 1.35)
    • Next signal: NKP Metal GA stated for H2 2026; NKP 2.19 certified on Kubernetes 1.36 as a dev build (2026-08-21), no date
    • Archetype: Nutanix-centred CAPI platform
    • Evidence grade: A. Release dates, Kubernetes minors and features come from archived DKP/NKP release notes, the Nutanix EOL table and the 2.18 guide; 2.15 to 2.17 minors use CNCF certification as proxy, scale limits and prices are behind login.

Lifecycle stability2.515-19 months per minor, no extended support; Konvoy 1 to DKP 2 rewrite and NKE line ended 2025

Say-do record, 2023 to 2026: 8 items 2023-2026: 5 shipped within 12 months (Insights GA, Cloud Director GA, DKP updates after acquisition, NKP summer 2024 GA, preflight checks), 1 slipped (NDK in NKP Pro, about 17 months), 2 pending (NKP Metal GA due H2 2026, KubeVirt at edge undated). 16 pass-1 items removed as unsupported.

Security record of the product itself: No CISA KEV entry and no critical (CVSS 9+) CVE found for Konvoy, DKP, Kommander or NKP components 2023-2026; Nutanix advisories behind login not read.

AI say-do: 2 tracked, 2 shipped (Nutanix Enterprise AI GA, AI Navigator with live cluster data). AI Navigator explains and drafts commands from docs and live cluster data but does not act; it uses a Nutanix-managed Azure OpenAI service and is unavailable air-gapped.

    10. Reading

Nutanix is folding the D2iQ platform into its stack: NKP gains AHV, Prism Central, NDK data services and NKP Metal, while keeping vSphere and cloud providers. The record since the 2024 relaunch is steady, with a release every three to six months and the launch promise kept, but new Kubernetes minors arrive seven to eight months after upstream and there is no VM-on-Kubernetes option. Buyers get a conformant, air-gap capable platform with strong day-2 tooling, at the cost of tier-gated features, login-gated release information and a product line that has changed owner and name twice.

    11. Open questions and evidence caveats

    • NKP 2.15 to 2.17 Kubernetes minors come from CNCF certification submissions (dev builds), used as a proxy for GA content.
    • NKP configuration maximums (fleet scale) and current release notes are behind the Nutanix portal login and were not read.
    • NKP Metal GA (promised H2 2026) was not confirmed by 2026-10-13; it may move the infra score.
    • Nutanix security advisories require login; the security record rests on the KEV feed and NVD keyword searches.
