    What the Ledger says

StarWind scores where small sites need it: a synchronous two or three node mirror that now serves vSphere, Hyper-V, oVirt, Proxmox VE and XCP-ng, with NVMe-oF added in 2026. It loses points on data services, security and data protection, partly because the product lacks them and partly because the public record does not document them; the evidence grade says so. The commercial picture changed more than the product in 2025: a new owner, term licences by default and a roadmap that merges StarWind into a platform due in 2027. A buyer should check the licence terms offered today against the perpetual contract they may hold.

StarWind has no AI of its own; the AI promises come from DataCore and have not reached the product. The control plane with an agent layer is in preview for other DataCore products and is not expected for StarWind before summer 2027.
