Checkmk ranks #4 of 20 infrastructure monitoring tools in the Infrastructure Monitoring Ledger 2026, with a Ledger Index of 73.6 out of 100. Checkmk has the cleanest delivery record here and Proxmox monitoring since 2021, but flow analysis still leans on ntopng and config backup is missing.

    What the Ledger says

Checkmk is turning a Nagios-born monitoring core into a broader observability platform, adding synthetic tests, OpenTelemetry, a Relay for segmented networks and an MCP server. Its record is the cleanest in this group: yearly majors, a public roadmap and almost every promise shipped at the stated version, with Proxmox monitoring in place since 2021. The trade-offs are flow analysis that still leans on ntopng, no configuration backup for network devices, and a new private-equity investor whose influence is not yet visible.

AI say-do: 2 announced, 2 GA with no lag, 0 preview, 0 pending, 0 dropped (incident clustering for 3.0 is on the general roadmap). The AI is statistical baselines plus LLM explanations of alerts through customer-hosted models.
